“Nunca volveremos a esa situación”, aseguró. The State of Israel as the Realization of the Prophetic Visions

Harav Yehuda Amital

I have had the privilege of reciting Hallel on Yom Ha-Atzma’ut fifty times, and this year, God willing, I will do so for the 51st time. Usually, I quote the verse, “I will give thanks to You, for You have answered me and have become my salvation” (Tehillim 118:21), but this year I will add the verse, “The land shall not be sold in perpetuity” (Vayikra 25:23). Rashi, citing Torat Kohanim, explains: “This is meant as a prohibition, which necessitates the return of fields to their owners in the Yovel (Jubilee) year.” In other words, endurance for longer than fifty years is considered endurance in perpetuity – forever.

The joy that Jews felt at the time of the declaration of the state can still, I believe, be appreciated today. However, I doubt that the young people of today are capable of identifying with and understanding the cry of “We pray You, O Lord – save us!” (Tehillim 118:25), which also accompanied us at that time. The decision to establish the state passed with a very modest majority; the Arabs pounced on us from all sides, and in 1948 we prayed with all our hearts that God would indeed save us. Upcoming UNESCO resolution to reject Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem

By: Jonathan Benedek, World Israel News

An Israeli flag flies in Jerusalem’s Old City. (Shutterstock)

The text of an upcoming resolution would reportedly mark the first time UNESCO will officially reject Israeli sovereignty over any part of Jerusalem.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is set to vote on a resolution that rejects Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem on Israel’s Independence Day this Tuesday.

It would be the first time UNESCO’s executive board will officially reject Israeli sovereignty in any part of Jerusalem, not just the portions of the city won during the 1967 Six-Day War.

The initial draft text introduced by Arab states in March declared “any action taken by Israel, the Occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the City of Jerusalem, are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever.”

The Temple Mount, or what prior UNESCO resolutions exclusively refer to as “Haram al-Sharif,” is reportedly not mentioned in the text of the resolution, but it does say that the historical Jewish holy sites of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem are “an integral part of Palestine.”

Moreover, while recognizing “the importance of the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls for the three monotheistic religions,” it reportedly calls to reaffirm prior texts referencing the sites only by their Muslims names.

Israel’s foreign ministry is lobbying member states of UNESCO’s executive board, which have diplomatic relations with the Jewish state, to vote against the resolution, or at the very least abstain.

“Israel expects the member nations to vote against the absurd resolution,” an Israeli diplomatic official said according to Ynet. “This draft resolution won’t hurt our determination to act in Jerusalem for the benefit of all of its residents. It will, however, hurt UNESCO’s declining position and the organization’s relevancy.”

Notwithstanding the final text of the resolution, UNESCO’s Director-General Irina Bokova acknowledged the utmost importance of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount to the Jewish peoplewhile addressing the 15th plenary assembly of the World Jewish Congress on Monday, referring to the site by its Hebrew and Jewish title, “Har Habayit.”

The municipality of Haifa and the police annouced on Friday that it is safe for all residents of Haifa to return to their homes. Authorities estimate that about 700 homes are currently uninhabitable due to heavy fire damage. Although the fire was renewed in some locations, firefighting forces have gained control over the flames.

Earlier on Friday, before the police’s announcement, some residents of the northern city decided to visit their evacuated homes and estimate the damage up close. Rescue forces then stressed that the area was still dangerous and urged residents to be patient and stay away from their homes. Police stationed officers to guard the abandoned neighborhoods during the night.

The city of Haifa in flames as fire broke in several locations; 60000 people evacuated; Police suspect Arson

Firefighters continue to battle fires across Israel

Netanyahu : Every single flame caused by arson is act of terror

As nighttime falls upon Israel on its 3rd day of raging fires, forces are still hard at work battling the fires throughout Israel. With 12 neighborhoods evacuated, Haifa is the main site of operations as 60,000 people were forced to leave their houses. About 100 people were treated for minor injuries mostly smoke inhalation . The wildfires were bolstered by high winds and dry conditions that have contributed to a spate of blazes across the country this week. However, Haifa is not the only location where the fires are still raging. The Israel Police is saying that “a wave of arson has befallen Israel” after 220 fires were reported during these past few days. The Israel Police has not ruled out arson as the cause of many of these fires. police said some arrests had been made in connection with the fires. During the day police and fire officials have refrained from commenting on which of the wildfires were caused by negligence, criminal arson or “nationalistically motivated” arson. Authorities believe that the fire at Shaar Hagai, close to the central Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway was not caused by arson, but rather spread from a fire in the nearby community of Nataf that began on Tuesday. However, officials said that the blaze in Modiin that started earlier was likely the result of arson. Continue a ler (Continue reading)→
